Baby girl names that gain popularity in 2021
The past decade’s most famous baby girl names have remained steady in rankings, but 2021 saw a shift. While Emma, Olivia, and Ava were still among the top five for two years running, Charlotte debuted at number four—dropping Isabella to spot seven.
The popularity bump may be due to British royal Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana’s birth that year; her name was not on this list until 2021, when it came in fourth place (Sophia fell from third place down one rank).
Amelia also rose into the sixth position while remaining reasonably consistent over these last few years, increasing by only one ranking each time she appeared within the top 10 choices.
Charlotte took Isabella’s spot to become the number four most popular name while she moved down one place from last year.
Amelia made its way into the top six, and Emma remained in the first position for two years, followed by Olivia, who dropped to second place instead of holding third like before.
Ava stayed in the third slot, unlike her rank drop last year, which gave room for Sophia to visit, but this time, she maintained the fourth spot.
Parents in 2021 are choosing classic and modern baby girl names, from Elizabeth to Nova. Popular choices for baby girls include Mia, Camila, and Gianna.
The top three baby girl names have remained the same since 2016. Other popular girl names include Charlotte, which rose from number 46 in 2010 to number four in 2020; Gianna, too, moved up 11 spots that year and is currently in 12th place.
Evelyn’s popularity has risen steadily over recent years, with an increase of 6 sites this decade, while Camila also gained momentum by seven percentage points, according to data collected between 2000-2030.
The names of the most Famous baby girls are not very common, so they will likely continue to be on-trend in 2021. One example of this is Capri.
Whose name has increased by 608 spots within 2019 and 2020 alone? Other trending names for girl babies include Avaya, Denisse, and Jianna Rosalia Zhuri.

Names for baby girls that were popular 100 years ago
In the 1920s, Mary was number one on America’s top ten list of most popular baby girl names. Other popular choices were Dorothy, Helen, and Betty in second place.
Margaret came next at third, with Ruth following close behind as fourth. Virginia ranked fifth among other hit picks like Doris and Mildred, while Frances took the eighth position to last.
Therefore, it was unsurprising that other top 50 female baby name ideas included Mary Margaret, Mildred Marion, and Marie Marjorie Martha, all ending in an “E.”
The same pattern continued for shorter traditional girls’ names, such as Alice Irene, Rose Louise, and Annie Grace, starting or ending on a short vowel sound (i-e).
Emma is a name that has seen its popularity wax and wane over the years.
In 1900, Emma was the thirteenth most popular baby girl’s name in America, but by 1976, it had fallen to number 463 before bouncing back up again today, where it ranks second on the list of names used for babies born yearly.
Take Note
Choose Middle names for Your baby.
Many families believe that two middle names are necessary, and some parents don’t think their children should have any.
So traditionally, in the United States, you will receive a first name, a middle name, and your family or last name.
However, there is no rule about how many you can use for yourself! So, if one isn’t good enough, try using more than one!
Consider how their names will pair together to choose the perfect middle name for your baby. Do you want all of the syllables to flow evenly? What do their initials spell out?
You can find a great match that works well with first and last names by answering these questions and considering options.
Shared names for your baby
Families have different traditions about naming babies. For example, some families might name the baby after a family member by adding that person’s last name as a middle name.
Another tradition is using an old favorite family surname in future children’s names instead of changing it up whenever someone is born into the picture!
In addition to the family, consider the popular or unpopular famous figures who share your baby girl’s name.
Do you want her associated with these individuals? You must choose carefully because this association will likely follow her throughout their lives!
In many other families, they use their famous family name as the child’s middle name. Think about a historical figure and a famous personality for choosing a middle name for the baby.
Unix Baby-names – Gender natural names
Plenty of great gender-neutral baby names are out there, so don’t forget to consider them when coming up with your list. Gender-Neutral Baby Names
When choosing baby girl names or top boy name lists, parents can quickly get stuck on traditional options that skew heavily towards one gender or another (or at least appear that way).
While most people still tend toward more masculine and feminine choices like Jackson and Emma, respectively, many folks have opted instead for something different by considering some great nonbinary animal name ideas. For example:
Some creative gender-neutral names that the arena isn’t typically famous for are:
Oceans, Skylar, Forest. There are also some cute unisex baby name books for inspiration!
